Rachmaninoff was a Russian pianist and composer of the Romantic era.  He is considered one of the greatest composers the Romantic Period.  Many of his compositions are frequently performed to this day.  Rachmaninoff left Russia in 1918 and moved to New York City.  

Among his more famous works are, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Piano Concerto No. 2, and his piano Prelude in C sharp Minor.  He was friends with  Scriban.  He served as conductor for the Cincinnati Symphony and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
