Sheet Music of Wagner Richard

Richard Wagner (1813-1883)

Sheet Music and Program Notes

Richard Wagner was a German composer of the Romantic period.  He is famous for his operas.  Wagner not only composed the operas but also wrote the libretto.  That is very unusual for operatic composers.  Some of his more famous works are Der Ring des Nibelung (The Ring of the Nibelung), Die, Meistersinger von Nurnberg, Lohengrin, Das Rheingold (The Rhine Gold), Parsifail, Die Walkure, and Sigrfied.

He was a poineer in the treatment of harmonic progression, where apparent endings are met with false cadences.  Rathen than ending a phrase or a work, it simply side steps the natural progression and continues.  His music is rich with thick textures and often requires large brass sections to perform.

Wagners music was not always appreciated by his colleagues.  Alkan wrote of Wagner, "Wagner is not a musician, he is a disease.  Rossini said Wagner has wonderful moments, but dreadful quarters of an hour.
