Saint-Saens was a French composer, pianist, organist and conductor of the Romantic period.  His best known works are his Piano Concerto Nu. 2, The Carnival of the Animals, and Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso for violin and orchestra.  Saint-Saens was a musical prodigy as a child and was giving concerts by the age of ten.  His talent was recognized by Rossini, Berlioz, and Franz Liszt.  

One of his students was Gabriel Faure.  One of his hobbies was astronomy.
