Rameau was a French organist and composer of the late Baroque era.  He was considered the greatest composer for harpsichord furing his lifetime along with Couperin.  Rameau's music fell out of popularity by the end of the 18th century and was only recently revived in the 20th century. 

He is famous for his Treatise on Harmony written in 1722.
