Kodaly was a Hungarian composer, violinist, and teacher.  Kodaly's style is Romantic in nature.  He was interested in foldsong.  In 1906 he wrote a thesis titled Strophic Constriction in Hungarian Foldsong.  He traveled the countryside with and recorded local folk music on phonograph cylinders.  He was friends with Bela Bartok, who was also interested in Hungarian Folk songs.

He wrote an extensive amount of educational and teaching materials as well as composing large numbers of compositions for children.
