Dvorak was a Czech composer and violinist of the Romantic era.  He was the eldest of 14 children.  He began study of the violin at age six.  Dvorak is widly recognized for his New World Symphony, Stabat Matter, The American String Quartet, Cello Concerto, Humoresque, Slavonic Dances, and songs My MOther Taught Me. 

Dvorak moved to the United States and was director of the National Conservatory of Music in New York from 1892-1895.  He was facinated with American Music.  He was comissioned by the New York Philharmonic to write the New World Symphony.
